Hello, I'm Emma.

I’m a mountain bike and cycling coach, mountain bike skills instructor and fitness instructor based in Moreton Bay, Queensland, and the founder of Bike Life Coaching.

My cycling journey began in my early 40s, when I discovered mountain biking on a school camp. Having barely ridden a bike, taking up mountain biking after this was a decision that raised eyebrows – but it’s also one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Those early rides were far from glamorous. I was learning how to stay upright, navigate trails and build confidence one challenge at a time – with plenty of bruises along the way! Thanks to persistence, determination and a growth mindset, however, I’ve confirmed that progress comes from showing up, training with purpose and believing that improvement is possible – no matter the starting point and no matter how slow that progress felt at times.

As my skills and fitness developed, I realised that I loved racing. What had started as a personal challenge grew into a passion for endurance cycling, with races ranging in length from several hours to several days. While I enjoy many forms of riding it’s endurance racing that continues to capture my imagination, with the required combination of fitness, strategy, bike set up, nutrition, mental resilience and adventure keeping me hooked.

I'm an everyday athlete.

I’ve never been a pro, I don’t consider myself particularly physically gifted and I constantly juggle training with the rest of my life. Yet with the support of great coaches, a commitment to consistent training and a willingness to keep learning, I’ve achieved things my younger self would never have imagined – including podium finishes at local, state, national and world championship (WEMBO) level endurance events.

Some of my very proudest moments, however, have nothing to do with either results or podiums. They are the personal breakthroughs that remind me why I love this sport: riding up a hill that I used to walk, completing my very first 100km ride, finishing my first 100-mile ride, riding 200km for the first time, completing 300km in a 24-hour solo mountain bike race, and riding trail features that once seemed far scarier than I like to admit. It’s moments like these that show we are capable of more than we sometimes believe!

Coaching is my passion.

Mountain biking and off-road cycling quickly became a huge part of my life. In 2018 I qualified as a mountain bike skills instructor and started a mountain bike club at the school where I taught. I subsequently went on to become a skills instructor for beginner to intermediate mountain bikers of all ages (a role I still love), helped to guide gravel tour groups, rode as a pilot for a blind cyclist and deliver AusCycling Instructor Courses around Australia.

In 2020, I completed my AusCycling Development Coach accreditation to deepen my understanding of the science behind training, including the physiological and psychological factors that influence performance. This was the beginning of an exciting new chapter, and I quickly discovered that my greatest satisfaction came from helping other everyday athletes achieve their own fitness and performance goals.

I’ve since coached athletes across a range of disciplines, helping them to achieve personal bests, complete major challenges and earn podium finishes. This has confirmed what I’ve always believed: with the right approach, meaningful goals and consistent support, ordinary people can achieve some pretty extraordinary things!

Bike Life Coaching.

In 2025, I took a leap of faith and stepped away from my long-term career as a science teacher to establish Bike Life Coaching.

I created Bike Life Coaching because I believe everyone deserves access to thoughtful, personalised coaching. My focus is helping busy people who are balancing careers, families and the demands of everyday life to achieve goals that matter to them, regardless of whether those goals are performance-based or centre around health and fitness. I work with mountain bikers and gravel cyclists of all ages, backgrounds and abilities with the goal of helping them to get fitter and faster, while also enjoying the journey along the way.

Quite simply, I believe your coaching should complement your life, not compete with it.

If you’re ready to challenge yourself and achieve a cycling goal that matters to you, Bike Life Coaching provides the science, structure and support to help you get there.

"Before I joined Bike Life Coaching, I was self-coaching. I found I was spending so long deliberating which interval to put where, how long blocks should be or how to build towards my goal. Anyone can get workouts from the internet, but they don’t help when things don’t go to plan or when life gets in the way. That’s where a real & knowledgeable coach comes in & why I’m so grateful to have Emma backing me up. I have someone to bounce ideas off, help me adjust through the inevitable challenges of normal life but also push me when I need it - & reign me in occasionally too!" "The simple fact is I am faster and stronger than ever before thanks to Emma! But more than that I’m becoming a better mountain biker through Bike Life Coaching with strength, mentality & community. This translates & I love seeing myself progress."

"It is…….PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! I really needed all the background and clarity around types of training and additional strength and mobility, AND I needed base and body composition training for these 3 months. It is honestly better than I imagined it would be and fits in so well with my ad hoc chasing novelty approach as I can pick and mix the rides in a given week and understand the principles I am working towards!"
